The main phenological stages of development of a grape plant are suitable for carrying out chemical treatments against diseases and pests of grapes

  • Rest phase. In this phase, the grape plant is in the winter, until the average daily temperature reaches +10 degrees. During this period, most winegrowers made two eradication treatments of vineyard vines with 3% (300g / 10l.) Iron vitriol solution. One treatment is carried out immediately before the shelter of the vineyard for the winter, the second immediately after the opening. Attention! All treatments for fatty acids are carried out with closed (dormant) kidneys in order to avoid burns of the buds that have started to grow.
  • Kidney opening phase (green cone). In this phase, it is recommended to carry out treatment against the larvae of grape itch and other pests hibernating in the buds, the surface of the vines and the ground.
  • The phase of appearance of 3-5 leaves. It is recommended to carry out treatment for fungal diseases in climatic zones where by this time the temperature reaches an acceptable level for the onset of the development of the disease, or in vineyards with a high infectious background in the last season.
  • Bloom.Before flowering in 3-5 days and after flowering in 3-5 days, it is recommended to carry out two mandatory preventive treatments, regardless of the state of the vineyard. These are the most important treatments in the vineyard, as they destroy the first "wave" of infection, preventing the possibility of infection of the grapes at the most crucial moment for laying the harvest of the current year. At the time of flowering and the formation of inflorescences, the plant is most vulnerable to disease. You should not neglect these treatments even in the "North", and even in the "South" it is sacred. If there is rotting of the fruit in the last season, it will be useful to have an anti-rot drug.
  • The berries reach the size of a pea. It is recommended to carry out treatment against all fungal diseases and pests.
  • The beginning of berry coloring. It is recommended for the southern regions to carry out a set of measures to protect against diseases and pests. Personally, I no longer carry out any treatments at this time. If you are unable to exclude this treatment, I recommend that you refrain from using systemic drugs and limit yourself to contacts with a short waiting period. I also do not recommend using insecticides with high toxicity (more than 3 points), but it is better to do without them.
  • Softening berries. A little over a week remains until maturity. I don't care what they recommend. I consider it unacceptable to carry out any chemical. treatments at this time. If you want to poison yourself and people, look for information about these treatments elsewhere. Only treatments with microbiological preparations of natural origin are permissible, for example Fitosporin, Baikal.
  • After the harvest. For some reason I do not understand, everyone forgets about the excellent opportunity to carry out completely safe processing of the vineyard after the harvest. They saved the crop, but at least the grass won't grow there? This is fundamentally wrong. Carrying out this treatment allows the plant to leave healthy in the winter with a minimum amount of wintering spores of infection, which will significantly reduce the infectious background in the next season and give you the opportunity to exclude treatments in the late phases of crop ripening.

As you can see, I deliberately did not write the calendar dates of treatments, but "tied" the treatment to the stages of development of the grape plant. Focusing on these phases, the grower of any climatic zone will be able to independently determine the timeliness and necessity of this or that processing.

Now we know how and when it is possible to cultivate a vineyard, the most difficult thing remains, to independently draw up a scheme for cultivating your vineyard. And here, unfortunately, I am not your assistant. Only you yourself are able to do this, I will only try to show how I do it.

My grape processing scheme

I do not consider two eradicating treatments with iron vitriol before and after shelter, since, in my opinion, these are mandatory treatments not only for grapes, but for the entire garden. These treatments do not carry a chemical "load" and are not included in my scheme.

So, we look at the development phases and recommendations for them and understand the need for one or another processing.

  • The phase of opening the kidney. Fortunately, I have not yet found a grape mite, so I will not process it from it. In addition, not so long ago, the processing of railways was carried out. vitriol. Whoever had this infection last season can treat the vineyard with VERTIMEK or BI-58
  • Appearance of 3-5 sheets. The temperature in Gomel (southeast of Belarus) at this time is still far from comfortable for the development of fungal diseases. Infectious background of the vineyard last season was low. Based on these facts, I decide to refrain from processing. Residents of more northern regions may also think about abandoning this treatment, but those who live to the south will think on the contrary about the need.
  • Bloom. Treatments before and after flowering are considered mandatory for everyone. How to determine the beginning of flowering? Before flowering, the ovaries (inflorescences) fully developed, individual flowers separated, in the earliest varieties, the first perianths began to separate from the receptacle (the caps were dropped). Focus on the earliest varieties. You feel that we are just about ... doing the processing. After flowering. Everything is clear here, the latest varieties have faded, again processing. I plan both treatments with systemic drugs. Before flowering RIDOMIL GOLD MC (from mildew) + TOPAZ (from oidium). After flowering, KVADRIS or STROBI (both broad-acting fungicides from a complex of fungal diseases). If you carefully read the descriptions of these drugs, then you noticed that these drugs are of different chemical classes with different active substances. In principle, with a small number of treatments, you can use the same drug both times, but then in the next season it is imperative to change to another chemical. class. If you have high humidity in your area, you can add SWITCH or KANTUS anti-rot agent to one of the treatments. If pests have shown themselves in your vineyard, add an insecticide from your type of pest to one of the treatments (see table). Personally, because of the sandy soil, I have a very dry microclimate in the vineyard and the number of pests is so small that I practically do not use anti-rot agents and insecticides, except for prevention at the beginning of the growing season.
  • On the "peas". During this period I will be guided by weather conditions. If the temperature and humidity conditions are favorable for fungal diseases, I will decide on the use of contact preparations DITAN M45 or DELAN (from mildew) and TIOVIT JET, VIVANDO or other sulfur-based preparations (from mildew). Insecticides and decay products as needed. I recommend already during this period to begin, if possible, to abandon systemic drugs with long waiting times and the use of insecticides above hazard class 3. I myself use only contact ones and only when the weather is favorable for the development of diseases, and I no longer use insecticides. But in Belarus, and for example, in the Crimea, it is unlikely that I will be able to abandon the systemists during this period.
  • Coloring berries. After the start of staining, I personally have a "taboo" on any chemical. processing other than bio. preparations FITOSPORIN, BAIKAL, etc. I recommend southerners to use only contact fungicides with a short waiting period during this period.
  • Berry softening, ripening. DO NOT carry out ANY treatments.
  • After the harvest. If necessary, treat with fungicides against diseases present at the time of visual inspection in the vineyard.

Bottom line: My treatment scheme for 2015.

  1. Before flowering. RIDOMIL GOLD MC (from mildew) + TOPAZ (from oidium).
  2. After flowering. KVADRIS or STROBI + BI-58
  3. On the "peas". DITAN M45 or DELAN (for mildew) and TIOVIT JET or other sulfur-based preparations (for mildew). Of necessity.
  4. After the harvest. If necessary, I will treat with fungicides against diseases present at the time of visual inspection in the vineyard.

It turns out two mandatory fungicide treatments and two, depending on weather conditions and the state of the vineyard. I use insecticides once after flowering for prophylactic purposes with a minimum dosage. This is a scheme only for my conditions and only for my vineyard. It is not known whether it will repeat itself in the next season, this one will show.
